Context

Our client is the IT department of a major player in the retail sector. Its Logistics line is looking for an architect who will also act as technical PO, to support its teams.

This line has 4 multidisciplinary teams, which manage strategic projects and the maintenance of the logistics application estate:

• Transport and packaging
• Mobility
• Warehouse management
• Mechanical and industrial systems

The organisation operates in Agile/Product at scale, with quarterly PI Planning.

The technical environment is rich and demanding:

• a long-standing core application;
• varied technology stacks (IBM i, Java, packaged software);
• complex integrations with mobile applications and robotised or mechanised systems;
• high-stakes projects across a heterogeneous scope.

The assignment

Support the teams in designing and implementing overall solutions (products, services and infrastructure), ensuring their functional and technical consistency with the company's strategy.

Architecture design and scoping

• develop the architectures of products, services and platforms;
• define principles, standards and best practices, and ensure they are applied;
• guarantee the urbanisation of the logistics IS, as well as its regulatory and security compliance.

Support and integration

• support the teams in detailed design and implementation;
• coordinate interfaces and flows with third-party services;
• ensure the technical consistency of the whole scope.

Technical PO role

• monitor the health of the application estate: obsolescence, lifecycle;
• analyse the impact of new projects and cross-team requests;
• identify, scope and prioritise the technical backlog with the product POs;
• drive progress and resolve technical dependencies;
• maintain the application mapping (Confluence, LeanIX).

Governance and AI

• promote the technical vision to the line's governance bodies;
• carry out technology watch, particularly on AI, and support the teams' adoption of AI tools;
• drive continuous improvement.

Deliverables

• architecture documents;
• up-to-date application mapping and documentation;
• epics for the technical backlog.

The profile we are looking for

• proven experience in application and IS architecture, and in technical management;
• mastery of IS urbanisation and software architecture;
• solid practice of SAFe and PI Planning;
• the ability to connect business needs with infrastructure and security issues;
• technical leadership and teaching skills.

Nice to have: experience with IBM i/AS400 environments and knowledge of logistics, WMS or mechanisation.
